The Smart Fire Fighter of the Future
"The Smart Fire Fighter of the Future Webinar" provides a summary of a project to develop a research roadmap for smart fire fighting, which establishes the scientific and technical basis for achieving the vision for Smart Fire Fighting in the United States. The vision for smart firefighting is based on creating, storing, exchanging, analyzing, and integrating information from a wide range of databases and sensor networks. This project will seek to achieve this vision by addressing all the applicable topic areas of the fire service emergency responder community
Fire Safety Challenges in Tall Wood Buildings
This webinar covers a Foundation Phase 1 project with the objective to gather relevant research on tall timber buildings and identify the knowledge gaps in the available information.
Fire Protection in the Clouds
NFPA 13 does not have definitive guidance on automatic sprinkler installation requirements for these ceilings and in some conditions requires sprinklers at both the structural ceiling and cloud ceiling panel elevations. This webinar will cover a two phase project that was undertaken at the Foundation and completed by Hughes Associates to obtain an understanding of how cloud ceilings impact sprinkler actuation thresholds to provide the technical basis for new sprinkler installation requirements.
Fire Safety in Green Buildings
This webinar will cover the results of a study commissioned by the Fire Protection Research Foundation to develop a baseline of information on the intersection of "green building" design and fire safety. The study identified gaps and specific research needs associated with understanding and addressing fire risk and hazards with green building design.
NFPA 72, Mass Notification System Risk Analysis Webinar
May 13, 2014: In the development of any mass notification system, NFPA 72 requires development of a risk analysis. This program focuses on the risk analysis and the interrelated elements that it comprises.
Understanding Unwanted Alarm Webinar
April 17, 2014: The Understanding Unwanted Fire Alarms Webinar reviews the results of a research project that developed a tool template that can be used by local fire departments with local data (to the extent possible) when deciding among courses of action to deal with unwanted alarms. The tool uses a generic model, combined with local data when available and national data when necessary, to estimate costs, fire losses and other impacts of strategies.
Responding to Electrical Vehicle Battery Fires Webinar
February 11, 2014: This NFPA webinar reviews the results of a recent research program to develop the technical basis for best practices for emergency response procedures for electric drive vehicle battery incidents, with consideration for certain details including: suppression methods; personal protective equipment (PPE); and clean-up/overhaul operations. This research program was based on full-scale testing of large format Li-ion batteries used in these electric vehicles, and the presentation will summarize these tests and includes discussion on the key findings relating to best practices for emergency response procedures for electric drive vehicle battery incidents. Sponsored by the Fire Protection Research Foundation
