National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day

Congratulations to residents all across the U.S. who participated in the National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day event on May 3, sponsored by NFPA and State Farm! Your dedication and passion raised wildfire awareness to a new level. It brought neighbors together and encouraged wonderful collaboration among residents in an effort to protect homes, neighborhoods and entire communities from future wildfire risk or current post-fire impacts. More than 100 projects were undertaken across the nation! Projects like:

  • Hemlock Farms in Pennsylvania, whose residents organized an afternoon event to hand out educational materials, and join in discussions with the local fire service, government officials and the forest service about wildfire safety and preparedness.
  • 2014 Wildfire Community Preparedness DayIn Quincy, California, a group of high school students worked together to prune, rake and remove branches and ground litter from around a handful of Quincy senior citizens’ residences. In the end, they helped removed 12 pickup loads of material!

For more information about the projects that were accomplished on May 3, check back regularly on our Fire Break blog and on Facebook.
