CELEBRATING 125 YEARS OF SAFETY

NFPA anniversary coinBorn out of the need for a single fire sprinkler standard in 1896, NFPA is now celebrating its 125th anniversary. As we reflect upon the progress we’ve made through the decades, we recognize and salute the countless groups, organizations, and individuals that have contributed to our collective achievements, and look forward to advancing fire and life safety together for the next 125 years.

What's new at NFPA?

The NFPA of today looks a whole lot different than when the organization was started back in 1896. While codes and standards remain central to our work, today we are recognized more broadly as a global information and knowledge leader providing tools, research, and resources for forward-thinking safety professionals and practitioners. Learn more about:

  • NFPA LiNK™ The association’s information delivery platform with NFPA codes and standards, supplementary content, and visual aids for building, electrical, and life safety professionals and practitioners.
  • The NFPA Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem™ – The Ecosystem is a framework that identifies the components that must work together to minimize risk and help prevent loss, injuries, and death from fire, electrical, and other hazards.
  • NFPA Research – NFPA studies data to provide insights about the overall fire problem, building and life safety, fire protection systems, hazardous materials, wildfire, electrical, and many other topics. The Fire Protection Research Foundation, the research affiliate of NFPA, works with organizations around the world to investigate emerging fire safety hazards and solutions.
  • The NFPA Fire & Life Safety Policy Institute – The Policy Institute helps policymakers understand and navigate a changing infrastructure, new technology, evolving risks, and competing priorities while emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong fire and life safety protection measures to keep communities safe.
  • Outthink Wildfire™ – NFPA introduced a comprehensive strategy in its 125th year that lays out five policy changes that must occur at all levels of government to end the destruction of US communities from wildfire by 2050.
  • NFPA Community Risk Reduction (CRR) – NFPA offers resources to help communities identify and prioritize local risks. CRAIG 1300™ is an innovative community risk assessment (CRA) dashboard that helps fire departments and safety officials collect community data, enabling them to identify, assess, and share local demographic, geographic, and economic needs.
  • Training and Certification – NFPA offers different options to train individuals and organizations to be safer, including self-paced online courses and virtual or in-person instructor led classes. Learn from experts through highly engaging experiences while earning valuable continuing education units (CEUs.)  NFPA Certification Programs are globally recognized credentials that help professionals demonstrate their expertise and stand out among their peers.
