UPDATE: On May 4, 2016, The US. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has published Medicare and Medicaid Programs; Fire Safety Requirements for Certain Health Care Facilities that requires healthcare facilities to migrate from using the 2000 edition of NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code® to the 2012 edition. The new requirements also mandates direct compliance with the 2012 edition of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, for the first time.
August 30, 2013: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issues Survey and Certification (S&C) memorandum on additional requirements for NFPA 99, 2012 edition and NFPA 101, 2012 edition. The S&C memorandum offers certified providers and suppliers the opportunity to utilize certain provisions from the 2012 editions of NFPA 99 and NFPA 101 that explicitly allow an alternate approach to be used on the newer requirements to achieve an equal level of protection.
March 9, 2012: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)issued a Survey and Certification (S&C) memorandum to address certain provisions of the 2012 edition of the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code®. The S&C memorandum is directed at the new provisions in the 2012 Code that address culture change.The information contained in the memorandum is current policy and is in effect for all applicable health care facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes.
