  • Kerry M. Bell, Chair
    Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. Northbrook, IL 

    Kerry M. Bell, PE, is a Principal Engineer and Corporate Fellow at UL specializing in fire sprinkler and pump equipment. He is a Fellow member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and a Life member of NFPA.  He is currently a member of more than ten NFPA technical committees as well as committees involved in developing standards for the International Standards Organization.  Mr. Bell obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northern Illinois University. He has been a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois since 1981.
  • Chad E. Beebe
    American Society for Healthcare Engineering of the American Hospital Association, Chicago, IL
    Chad Beebe, AIA FASHE, is a registered architect, a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, and a Certified Building Official. He is the Deputy Executive Director for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association. A 12,000 member organization who’s members are accountable for the design, construction, and operation of health care facilities. Mr. Beebe is a highly active member of the National Fire Protection Association and serves on over 20 NFPA committees and many national panels that develop regulations for the design and construction of health care facilities. He is a board member for the American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Health. After spending 10 years practicing architecture, Mr. Beebe served as the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for the Washington State Department of Health and was responsible for overseeing the design and construction of all health care-related facilities in the state, including board and care facilities, nursing homes, and hospitals.
  • Kenneth E. Bush
    Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, Easton, MD
    Kenneth E. Bush, FSFPE, has been employed as a Fire Protection Engineer with the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office following graduation from the Fire Protection Engineering Program at the University of Maryland in 1976.  Currently he serves as the Chief Fire Protection Engineer for that Office and supervises a staff of five Regional Fire Protection Engineers providing engineering services for the application of applicable fire protection laws, codes, standards and recognized engineering practices to address all types of fire protection issues throughout the State of Maryland.  Mr. Bush also remains as an active participant in the review process to amend and adopt nationally written and recognized codes and standards for adoption as part of the State and local laws and regulations, and provides technical assistance to other fire officials, design and consulting professionals, building contractors, and the general public in all areas of fire and safety code requirements and fire protection related matters; and to investigative personnel in the investigation of fires involving personal injury, loss of life, or high dollar loss.  Throughout his 40-year career, Mr. Bush has held positions in many national and local professional organizations, including participation in the NFPA Life Safety Project since 1978, and membership on several other NFPA Technical Committees and Member Sections.  He also remains active in the local fire service, and serves as a Contract Instructor with the National Fire Academy.
  • Jeffrey J. Foisel
    Dow Chemical, Midland, MI

    Jeffrey J. Foisel serves as a Research and Development Environment Health and Safety Delivery Leader for Dow Chemical.  Jeff has over 25 years in lab safety and facilities combined with additional roles in process safety, integrated management systems, and auditing.  He has been active with NFPA since 2007 serving on  NFPA's Industrial Fire Protection Section Board of Directors where he is currently finishing his second year as chairperson.  Jeff has also been active on the Laboratories Using Chemicals, NFPA 45 technical committee.  He continues to serve as a board member for the UC Center of Lab Safety since its inception.  Jeff has a BSE degree in Chemical Engineering from Grove City College. 
  • Patricia A. Gleason
    Safety Equipment Institute, McLean, VA
    Patricia Gleason currently serves as President of the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI), a subsidiary of ASTM International.   She has over 25 years’ experience in the standards and conformity assessment industry. Ms. Gleason oversees SEI’s ISO/IEC 17065 accredited certification programs for safety and protective products used and by millions of workers in the fire & emergency services industry and by recreational consumers of sports and athletic equipment.  Ms. Gleason currently serves as Chairman of Board of the American National Accreditation Board (ANAB). She has served on the NFPA Correlating Committee on Fire and Emergency Services Protective Clothing and Equipment since 1995 and the NFPA Technical Committee on Hazardous Materials Protective Clothing and Equipment since 1998.  Ms. Gleason serves on the ANSI Accreditation Committee, the ANSI Conformity Assessment Committee and the ANSI International Conformity Assessment Committee and the Standards Coordination Subgroup of the Interagency Board for homeland emergency response.  She also serves on standards development organization’s Technical Committees that publish performance standards for the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Ms. Gleason received her MBA from Marymount University and her BS from Frostburg State University. She is the recipient of the American National Standards Institute Gerald H Ritterbusch Conformity Assessment Medal in 2015, and Distinguished Service Award in 2006.
  • James E. Golinveaux
    President / CEO Viking Group Inc., Hastings, MI
    James E. Golinveaux  is currently the President / CEO of Viking Group, Inc. With 37 years of experience in the fire protection industry including both contracting and manufacturing, he currently holds 12 US Patent families in Automatic Sprinkler Technologies. He is a past member of the Board of Trustees for the Fire Protection Research Foundation, as well as multiple other Boards and Councils including the Factory Mutual Advisory Committee, AFSA, NFSA and the International Fire Sprinkler Association. James has served on various NFPA technical committees for over 25 years.
  • Michael J. Johnston
    National Electrical Contractors Association, Bethesda, MD
    Michael Johnston is NECA’s executive director of standards and safety. Mike holds a BS in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. Mike is the Chairman of the NEC Correlating Committee and an Alternate on NEC CMP-1. He served on NEC CMP-5 in the 2002, 2005, and chair of CMP-5 representing NECA for the 2011 NEC cycle. Among his responsibilities for managing the codes, standards, and safety functions for NECA, Mike is secretary of the NECA Codes and Standards Committee. Mike’s career includes working as a journeyman electrician on residential, commercial, and industrial projects. He also worked as a project foreman and superintendent for several major electrical construction projects. Johnston achieved both Journeyman Electrical License (E-2) and Unlimited Electrical Contractor (E-1) licenses in the State of Connecticut. Mike was also employed with the City of Phoenix in the Development Services/Building Safety Department as an Electrical Inspections Field Supervisor and gained experience in Electrical Code enforcement both as a Senior Electrical Inspector and Field Supervisor. Johnston holds all national electrical inspection certifications provided through the IAEI and has achieved inspector certification through the International Code Council (ICC). Johnston is a member of the IBEW and is an active member of ANSI, IAEI, NFPA, SES, ASSE, ANSI-EVSP and ANSI-ESSCC, and the UL Electrical Council, the National Safety Council and he is currently Vice Chair of the NFPA Electrical Section.
  • Gary S. Keith
    FM Global, Norwood, MA
     
    Gary S. Keith is the Vice President-Engineering Standards at FM Global, overseeing the development of technical guidance to understand and mitigate the property hazards in client locations.  Prior to returning to FM Global in 2013, he worked 18 years for NFPA serving as Vice President-Field Operations and overseeing six divisions responsible for the outreach of NFPA's fire safety mission.  He has been a member of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, a project dedicated to public education for residential fire sprinkler systems, since its inception and served as its president from 1996 to 2013.  Prior to NFPA, he worked 15 years for FM Global in various field engineering and management positions.  Mr. Keith also served his home town community for 20 years as a call firefighter and fire protection engineer with the Fire Department in West Bridgewater, MA.  He has a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology and is a graduate of the Management Development program at Harvard Business School. 
  • Daniel J. O'Connor
    Jensen Hughes, Inc., Lincolnshire, IL
    Daniel J. O'Connor, P.E. is Vice President of Jensen Hughes, Inc. where he provides technical leadership and expertise to staff on a company-wide basis often in the areas of fire modeling, human behavior, and new fire protection technologies and research-related projects. He provides leadership on engineering and sales activities for high-profile projects and new market initiatives by the firm. In addition to serving as Chair of the National Fire Code, NFPA 72, Committee on Initiating Devices he is  a member of several other NFPA Committees. Mr. O'Connor is Chair of the SFPE Task Group on Human Behavior; and a past Co-Chair of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats (CTBUH) Fire Safety Working Group.  Mr. O’Connor has authored chapters in both the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook and the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering. Mr. O'Connor earned his Master of Science degree in fire protection engineering at the University of Maryland. He is a registered professional engineer in Illinois and Kansas and a Fellow of the SFPE.


  • Jack Poole
    Poole Fire Protection Inc., Olathe, KS
    Jack Poole, PE, FSFPE, is a Principal of Poole Fire Protection, Inc. in Olathe, Kansas. Mr. Poole graduated from the University of Maryland in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Fire Protection, licensed in 49 states and 3 territories. His expertise includes building and fire-code consulting and designing fire suppression and fire alarm & detection systems. He was a volunteer firefighter and Fire Marshal, currently serves as the SFPE Secretary-Treasurer on the Board of Directors, is an SFPE Fellow, serves on several NFPA Technical Committees, is Chairman of NFPA 72 SIG-PRO and NFPA 520, serves on the University of Maryland Fire Protection Engineering Department Curriculum Advisory Committee, is the Chairman of the Board of Visitors for the University of Maryland Fire Protection Engineering Department, serves on the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering Board of Visitors and is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Oklahoma State Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology Industrial Advisory Board. Mr. Poole received the Glenn L. Martin Medal from the University of Maryland in 2014, was honored as a Distinguished Alumni from the Department of Fire Protection Engineering in June of 2015 and received the John L. Bryan Mentoring Award from SFPE in 2016.

  • James R. Quiter
    Arup, Los Angeles, CA
    James R. Quiter is a Principal with Arup and currently leads their 250 person Los Angeles office.  He has more than 30 years of experience as a fire engineer and is recognized as a leader in Fire Protection Engineering in North America and globally. His experience blends an excellent understanding of fire protection engineering and performance-based codes with wide recognition as an expert in the US codes and their applications. He is currently the Chair of the NFPA High Rise Building Safety Advisory Committee. He is Past Chair of the NFPA Safety to Life Correlating Committee, the NFPA Building Code Correlating Committee and the National Construction Safety Team Advisory Committee. He was also Chair of the SFPE Task Group which authored a Guide to Fire Protection in Very Tall Buildings. He is a Fellow and a past President of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and a Life member of NFPA.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in 13 states and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
  • Rodger Reiswig
    Johnson Controls/Tyco/SimplexGrinnell, Apopka, FL
    Rodger Reiswig is a Fellow with Johnson Controls and serves as VP, Industry Relations. With over 32 years in the fire protection industry including training, product support, application design, sales and management experience. Rodger currently serves on numerous NFPA Technical Committees. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Fire Protection Research Foundation. In addition, Rodger serves as a board member for the Center for Campus Fire Safety and is the President of the Automatic Fire Alarm Association. He is the Chair of the NEMA Installation Codes Committee and the Chair of the Electronic Security Association’s Codes and Standards Committee. Additionally Rodger serves as a member of the ASME A17 Elevator and Escalator Safety Code, Emergency Operations Committee. Rodger also serves on ISO TC21 for Fire Alarm Systems and IEC TC 79 Security Systems and Components Committees. Rodger holds a NICET level IV Fire Alarm Systems Certification and a NICET level I Special Hazards Layout Certification and holds a Master’s Degree in Biblical Theology from Evangelical Theological Seminary. Rodger holds certifications from Two Rivers Technologies as a Master in Telecommunications and from Eastern Technical holds a certification in Electronics Technology and Microprocessor Design.
  • Kenneth W. Richards Jr.
    Fire Chief / Fire Marshal / Old Mystic Fire Department, Mystic, CT
    Kenneth W. Richards, Jr. MS, EFO, CFO has been a member of the Fire Service for 43 years starting in 1976 at the age of 14 as a Junior Firefighter in Old Mystic, CT. Ken has served as the career Fire Chief / Fire Marshal of the Old Mystic Fire Department for 25 years. Currently, he is the 1st Vice President of the New England Division of The International Fire Chiefs Association(NEDIAFC), and a 27-year member of the NFPA. Serving as a member of the Fire Service Training Technical Committee for 17 years and its Chair for the past 8 years. Chief Richards earned his Bachelor of Science in Fire Technology from Charter Oak State College and holds a Master of Science in Executive Fire Service Leadership from Grand Canyon University. He is also a 1999 graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program, a Certified Chief Officer from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, a Fire Officer IV NFPA Standards and a Fire Instructor III NFPA Standards.
