Electrical Section Annual Business Meeting procedures for positions on Certified Amending Motions | NFPA
NFPA Electrical Section Annual Business Meeting procedures for Section positions on Certified Amending Motions (CAMs)
Meeting room logistics
Section motion forms will be available in the meeting room. Completed forms should be handed to a designated representative and will be placed in a collection box.
Section motion forms selection
The Section chair or designee will randomly select from the collected motion forms submitted at the Section’s Annual Business Meeting and announce the Certified Amending Motion (CAM) to be discussed.
Motions
The submitter of the NITMAM will have the first opportunity to make a motion.
If the submitter of the NITMAM is not present, or chooses not to make a motion, a motion can then be made by the person(s) who submitted the Motion Form selected by the chair or designee.
Alternative motions are in order from the floor upon the failure of motion to receive a majority affirmative vote.
Time limit for speaker is three (3) minutes.
Reporting official Electrical Section positions at NFPA Technical Meetings
Only motions receiving a simple majority affirmative vote will be reported as the official position of the Electrical Section.
Official positions of the Electrical Section will be reported at the Technical Session as “the Electrical Section voted to support” or “the Electrical Section voted to not support” a Certified Amending Motion. A report of “voted to not support” a Certified Amending Motion will only be given after a motion has been made and passed to not support a Certified Amending Motion at the Electrical Section Annual Business Meeting.Motions to support a Certified Amending Motion that fail at the Electrical Section Annual Business Meeting will not be reported unless a specific motion is made and passed to not support the Certified Amending Motion.
An Electrical Section position is not required for all Certified Amending Motions.
The Section Chair will designate a Section Board member to present the official positions during the Technical Session.
