July 22, 2011 – The Confederation of Fire Protection Associations-International (CFPA-I), a collective of leading fire protection organizations, assembled prior to the 2011 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Conference & Expo in Boston, Mass. in June.

This year’s assembly, which had 18 countries represented, passed a resolution on fire sprinklers in residential occupancies and endorsed a position paper on fire safety education outreach for children.

A new executive committee was also elected.  Members include:  Chair Steven Ooi (Malaysia), Vice-Chair Gary Keith (USA), Treasurer Hubert Ruegg (Switzerland) and Directors Hatem Kheir (Egypt), Anders Bergqvist (Sweden), Jesper Ditlev (Denmark) and Gao Wei (China).

“Collaboration that happens among members and the leadership of CFPA-I leads to greater strides in fire protection on a global scale,” said Gary Keith, NFPA’s vice president of field operations and education. “The group taking action to pass a resolution on residential sprinklers at this recent meeting is an example of how they can use a common voice to advocate for better fire protection for people and property.”

The full assembly of the Confederation meets every three years to share experiences, research, technical knowledge and fire statistics to develop effective fire prevention and protection methods. They also work to build upon international fire safety codes and standards.
