“Hylton’s broad experience as a forester and wildland firefighter is a valuable asset to our Firewise program and will complement our outreach efforts,” says Firewise program manager Michele Steinberg. “As a key member of the Firewise team, Hylton’s skills and expertise will help us greatly in furthering our wildfire safety mission.”

NFPA’s Firewise Communities/USA® Recognition Program includes over 750 member communities across the United States that continue their efforts to reduce local wildfire vulnerability and prevent loss of lives and property from wildfire.

“Wildfire activity across the country has increased tremendously in the last few years and Firewise plays an important role in helping communities address their risk for wildfire damage,” said Haynes. “I look forward to contributing to the expansion of NFPA’s Firewise program and working with our partner organizations and agencies to help residents take the next steps to protect their communities against a wildfire threat.”

Before coming to NFPA, Haynes worked for the New England Forestry Foundation and the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he served as an area forester, a forest engineer, and a forestry supervisor. A native of South Africa, Haynes holds degrees from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Stellenbosch University, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. He comes to NFPA with extensive wildland firefighting experience.
