Impact of Fixed Fire Fighting Systems on Road Tunnel Resilience, Ventilation and Other Systems

Fire Protection Research Foundation report: "Impact of Fixed Fire Fighting Systems on Road Tunnel Resilience, Ventilation, and Other Systems"

Fixed Fire Fighting Systems (FFFS) are commonly in use in building industry. However, FFFS have seen limited use in highway tunnels in the United States. High traffic through many of these tunnels has resulted in fire issues relating to safety and property damage. Higher use of FFFS in other countries (e.g., Japan and Australia) shows high potential in reducing this risk.

In order to have a better understanding of this risk and strategies to reduce it using FFFS, this research collects previously collected experimental, computational fluid dynamic (CFD), and cost analysis data of road tunnel fires using FFFS.
