Research Foundation seeks proposals for its latest RFP on “Application of immersive learning for firefighter training” project
A Request for Proposals is now open for the Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) research project “Application of immersive learning for firefighter training”. The deadline for submitting proposals is January 21, 2022, at 5 PM Eastern Time.
Training is a critical part of the fire service. As new technological innovation applications emerge and are proven in other arenas, fire service training academies must investigate these components (e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, etc.) to understand what impact they have on firefighter trainee skills, safety, and wellness. This project seeks to leverage the immersive learning technologies that have proven to be beneficial in other high-risk occupations, such as the military, aviation, law enforcement, health care, and identify the value of applying such immersive learning into firefighter training. The overall goal is to identify, assess, and summarize the available and emerging technological tools, techniques, and innovations available so that we can support the application of immersive learning environments into fire service training. The research project will help identify the impact that technical innovations have on firefighter skills, health, and safety during training.
This Request for Proposal is specifically addressing the role and related details of the FPRF Project Contractor so that interested parties can develop baseline content and materials. The Project Contractor shall conduct a comprehensive review of available literature information, ongoing research studies, current fire service practices that have implemented immersive learning techniques, and ultimately generate applicable background information that supports or refutes the use of immersive technology in fire service and other training.
