New report outlines trends in home fires involving clothes dryers and washing machines
In recent years, the annual number of home fires involving clothes dryers and washing machines reported to U.S. fire departments has fluctuated from year to year, after falling in the early 1980s and then leveling off in the 1990s. This is according to a new report: Home Fires Involving Clothes Dryers and Washing Machines.
In 2010-2014, U.S. municipal fire departments responded to an estimated 15,970 home fires involving clothes dryers or washing machines each year. These fire resulted in annual losses estimated at 13 deaths, 440 injuries and $238 million in direct property damage.
