'Bama Bound

Think Disney World, but for fire safety. That’s how the NFPA HEROES Experience is being described. Part of the planned National Center for Fire and Life Safety, the HEROES Experience will feature interactive fire and life safety exhibits for visitors of all ages, while the proposed building’s exterior design is meant to resemble a fire truck. The goal is to break ground on the project, located in Pelham, Alabama, by next year, with an opening date sometime in 2021. “The attraction will be the first of its kind, and a very different way to impart life-saving information in an age when it’s increasingly difficult to get people’s attention and to get them to take action,” Lorraine Carli, NFPA’s vice president of Outreach and Advocacy, writes in this issue’s “Outreach” column, which explains the project in more detail.
