Texas Calling

BY JIM PAULEY

It’s that time of year again for NFPA’s equivalent of the Kentucky Derby—our annual Conference & Expo. We will be in San Antonio June 17–20 for what is sure to be an event that once again sets the bar for excellence and opportunities for learning. As you would expect, we have a few changes in store to make your experience even better.

To kick off the week, we’ve moved our awards celebration from the General Session to a special invitation-only Sunday night gala called the Stars at Night Celebration. This event will recognize our award winners from across the spectrum of fire and life safety, and will give them a chance to share their stories of how they are making a difference.

On Monday, the General Session will feature a keynote speaker who will take us deeper into the world of technology. We have also added a new twist to the session: a panel of members from NFPA’s board of directors will also be onstage to offer their takes on the NFPA Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem and share what they believe can be done to better protect people and property. Stay tuned for opportunities on how you can ask panelists questions in advance.

The Expo floor has also grown this year, and will once again provide a huge opportunity to learn about what is coming in fire and life safety. This is the year we put the finishing touches on the 2020 edition of NFPA 70,® National Electrical Code® (NEC®), and there is much to talk about regarding the future of electrical safety—which is why the Expo will include a new NEC/Electrical Experience Pavilion that will feature interactive activities from solutions providers in the industry. We also know that the future is now, so we will again feature our Emerging Technology Showcase and Building of Tomorrow as part of our Expo attractions. Among the highlights is Power over Ethernet (PoE), a promising technology that could revolutionize how data and electrical power are transmitted. PoE connectivity is just one of many technologies featured at the Expo as part of our efforts to help attendees learn more about business opportunities and consumer benefits.

I invite you to attend the NFPA Conference & Expo and use it as your single best opportunity to network with electrical, fire, and life safety professionals, and to hone your expertise in our more than 120 education sessions.

See you in San Antonio!
