The risk to residents and property in the wildland-urban interface (WUI) is a global challenge. Wildfire-prone areas of the world face human population growth and increasing building development.
Where there are challenges, there are also common solutions. NFPA is engaging in partnerships with various organizations around the world, equally committed to the global conversation on community based fire management, WUI preparedness, and resident empowerment.
Since 2006, NFPA has worked closely with partners in Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand as they developed local outreach programs that advocate wildfire risk-reduction activities. Recent outreach has included connections with Chile, Lebanon, and Spain.
NFPA’s resources, including the
Firewise Communities/USA Recognition Program model and wildfire-related codes and standards, are sought after around the globe. Read on to learn more about current international partnerships and activities that advance our wildfire safety mission.
