NFPA would like to thank the volunteer committee that helped develop the Certified Sprinkler ITM Specialist (CSITMS) for Facility Managers Certification. In the course of their work, committee members performed a job task analysis, determined the exam weighted criteria, and created the exam content. The hard work and dedication of the following individuals, along with the rest of the volunteer committee, made the development of this credential possible.
Dana Bowen, CSITMS
Building Maintenance Foreman
Fairbanks International Airport (FAI), State of Alaska DOT & PF
As building maintenance foreman, Dana Bowen is responsible for the maintenance of the Fairbanks International Airport’s terminal, airport response center, maintenance facility and all runway lighting and lighted signs. FAI’s systems must be maintained for the safety of the traveling public and the aircraft, in weather conditions that can reach -50° Fahrenheit.
He has worked for the airport for the last 11 years, with a total of 13 years’ service to the state of Alaska. Before working for the state of Alaska, Dana served three years as an ammunition specialist in the US Army, where he was also an Army combat lifesaver. As a result of his service he is a proud member of several disabled veterans groups. Dana has been using his GI bill to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
He is a certified CPR instructor, and currently teaches CPR at the airport. He has an EPA 608 EPA Universal license. Dana lives in Goldstream, Alaska with his wife and two children.
David W Brown, CSITMS

Facilities Maintenance Supervisor
David Brown is currently a supervisor for facilities support at Metro Transit, St. Louis. He attained a NEEC certification as building operator level I and II, complimenting the oversight of the 400,000 sq. ft. facility as office or work area, with approximately 355 men and women.
He has 29 years of project management experience in fire protection, construction, and service. He is a retired US Navy Seabee, Chief Petty Officer Builder. His Navy project experience ranged from superintendent of a ranger station visitors’ center project in Hemp Hill, Texas, to contingency construction projects within the Fallujah, Iraq area of operation.
David is a native Missourian, and returned home after each of his two presidential recalls to active duty. He is married with a teenage stepson, and a married daughter. His hobbies include motorcycling, fishing, hiking and mountain biking. His community involvement includes fund raising for disabled military veteran groups, and his church’s community service efforts.

Vincent Del Borrello has been involved in the facility and property management industry for over 15 years. He has held different positions within the operational side of facilities and is currently working at a Class "A" high rise trophy property in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida. He previously managed the opening of a state-of-the-art baseball park and a television production and news building as facility manager. Vincent has also been involved with several different office type facilities. He has been involved in fire and life safety, overseeing the replacement and testing of existing and new fire alarm and wet pipe sprinkler systems. He has worked closely with area fire departments in developing and instituting fire warden and evacuation training, facility compliance with NFPA and OSHA requirements, and is certified as a BOMI International instructor for both facility/property management and engineering. He is a past president of the local IFMA chapter and served on several committees for IFMA and BOMA as well as serving on the CIMS-GB technical committee for ISSA.

Normand has been with Trane for 19 years, working in the facility management operations part of Trane Building Services for the last eight years. Trane performs facility management for all types of industries throughout the US and Canada, focusing on “on-site” mechanical services, and handles all other customer requests through our teaming partners. We have operations from one general maintenance technician in a building to customers that let us handle their entire facilities service operations with a dedicated site-based team. Prior to Trane, Normand served in the US Navy for 13 years primarily in the engineering world. Normand is married, has three children, and two grandchildren.

Bill has been working in facilities within an education setting for over ten years. He has been able to combine his background in construction, facility maintenance, safety and security, into the school setting. Bill has been a firefighter and EMT within both Delaware and Chester Counties since 1999, and has been recognized for his service on several occasions. He is not only a licensed contractor and certified electrician, but also holds many certifications from FEMA, PEMA, and the National Fire Academy.
Bill is also involved with live theatre and bands. He can often be found running the lights and sound for various productions and concerts around the area. When not working, Bill can be found with his wife and three children.

Michael currently has responsibility for the client’s properties in the Americas portfolio and provides technical support for projects in the global portfolio. He has over 45 years of experience in all aspects of commercial, manufacturing and institutional facilities. He is responsible for developing and implementing best practices, such as; performing predictive technologies (vibration, alignment, IR thermal imaging, US thickness testing and leak detection, etc.), a vendor-managed MRO keep-stock program and an in-house apprenticeship & qualification program. Support of RFP national service contracts, including scope of work development, defining frequencies and equipment lists for competitive bids as well as a vendor scorecard program for quality control. He has specialized in new construction commissioning and has worked for extended periods of time in the Americas, Asia and Europe on client projects. Michael holds a license as a stationary steam engineer and a fire pump, alarm, standpipe/sprinkler main inspector in Ohio.

Bryant Powell has been working in the facilities industry his entire professional career. He started out as a maintenance technician with Prudential Insurance Company. During his 25 years with Prudential, he worked his way up to operations manager, overseeing several of Prudential’s facilities. When Prudential decided to outsource its facility management function, Bryant found his way to Pennswood Village, an 83 acre continuing care retirement community in Newtown, Pennsylvania, where he became the assistant director of facilities. While managing the nuts and bolts of a retirement community is not that different from a corporate facility, there is a huge difference in the customer. Bryant has found that working with the residents of Pennswood Village, and taking care of their homes instead of a 9-5 office building, is the most rewarding part of his job.
Anthony Sharo, CSITMS

Anthony (Tony) Sharo has over 10 years of experience working with fire protection systems. He is currently the operations area manager at Rutgers University’s Newark, New Jersey campus. Tony leads a crew of 12 tradespeople and is responsible for maintaining over a million square feet of educational facility space. Tony holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection and is currently working toward a Master’s in Public Administration, which will be completed in the spring of 2017. He holds NICET fire sprinkler and Universal 608 certifications as well as state licenses in HVAC, fire inspector, and fire sprinkler systems. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two kids.

Joe Southerland is a facilities operations specialist in the engineering management division of the Defense Information Systems Agency, helping to create and maintain world class data centers for U.S Department of Defense.
A Certified Engineering Technician (CET) in wet pipe fire protection systems by training and experience, Joe expanded into facility operations and maintenance and served for eight years as the facilities director of the 65th Medical Brigade in South Korea. Before his assignment in Denver, Joe served as the facilities operations specialist for the White House Communications Agency.
Joe maintains close involvement in the healthcare world and is a Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) and Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM).
Ron Staab, CSITMS

Currently, Ron is working at Silverado Memory Care Brookfield, Wisconsin as the Director of Plant Operations. Ron has more than 30 years of experience developing and executing high-impact internal and external projects and programs and a long history working for not-for-profit health care corporations. He is an active member of the Wisconsin Healthcare Engineering Association, and currently serves as the vice president of the Board of directors. Ron has a combined knowledge of regulations and codes from his 15 year career in the Navy, to his work in private industry and his work in the health care sector.
