Standard on Continuity, Emergency, and Crisis Management

The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (the 9/11 Commission), recognized NFPA 1600 as our National Preparedness Standard®. Widely used by public, not-for-profit, nongovernmental, and private entities on a local, regional, national, international and global basis, NFPA 1600 has been adopted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a voluntary consensus standard for emergency preparedness.

Please note:  As part of the Emergency Response and Responder Safety Document Consolidation Plan (consolidation plan) as approved by the NFPA Standards Council, this Standard has been combined into new consolidated Standard NFPA 1660.  As a result of this action, the “current edition” of NFPA 1600 shown on this page is the last published edition of the standard’s content as a stand-alone standard.  For further information and text of the current consolidated Standard, go to NFPA 1660.
