This standard describes a fire test method for determining the fire test response characteristics of individual fuel packages in a room when exposed to various ignition sources in a controlled environment.

What does NFPA 289 address?
Three types of fuel packages are covered: single decorative objects; exhibit booths; and theater, motion picture, and television stage sets including backdrops and scenery. Testing provides the following data: extent of fire growth, rate of heat release, total heat released, smoke obscuration, production of carbon monoxide, emissions of other combustion gases, gas temperatures, and mass loss of single decorative objects.Table Of Contents.
