Technical Meeting

As we continue through unprecedented times with many countries worldwide grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, and as previously announced, the Technical Meeting will be held in an electronic format this year. The NFPA Board of Directors has suspended the NFPA Technical Meeting Convention Rules (“Convention Rules”) and approved “Temporary NFPA Technical Meeting Convention Rules for 2020” (also referred to as the “Temporary 2020 Rules”), which will apply only for the 2020 Technical Meeting. The Temporary 2020 Rules are available below for review. For more details and information about the Technical Meeting, click on “Get more details” immediately below.

The 2020 Report of the Motions Committee and Agenda reflects actions taken by the Committee on April 30 and addresses two Fall 2019 and eight Annual 2020 Standards with Certified Amending Motions:

  • NFPA 1, Fire Code
  • NFPA 4, Standard for Integrated Fire Protection and Life Safety System Testing
  • NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code
  • NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code
  • NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code®
  • NFPA 790, Standard for Competency of Third-Party Field Evaluation Bodies
  • NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications
  • NFPA 1500, Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety, Health and Wellness Program
  • NFPA 1700, Guide for Structural Fire Fighting
  • NFPA 5000®, Building Construction and Safety Code®

Of the NITMAMs received on the Annual 2020 Revision Cycle Standards, 23 NITMAMs were approved on April 30th as withdrawn by the Motions Committee (related to nine Standards) and will be balloted by the Standards Council as Consent Standards:

  • NFPA 17, Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems
  • NFPA 30A, Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages
  • NFPA 70E®, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace®
  • NFPA 90A, Standard for the Installation of Air-Conditioning and Ventilating Systems
  • NFPA 220, Standard on Types of Building Construction
  • NFPA 1194, Standard for Recreational Vehicle Parks and Campgrounds

Note: NFPA 99, NFPA 101®, and NFPA 5000® had Certified Amending Motions for consideration during the 2020 Technical Meeting as of the Motions Committee’s actions on April 30. However, on May 18, the Motions Committee approved the subsequent request for withdrawal of the only CAM for NFPA 5000® (namely, CAM 5000-8); therefore NFPA 5000® will be balloted by the Standards Council as a Consent Standard.
