Technical Meeting

The Technical Meeting will be held in an electronic format this year, with improvements based upon feedback from last year’s event. The NFPA Board of Directors has suspended the NFPA Technical Meeting Convention Rules (“Convention Rules”) and approved “Temporary NFPA Technical Meeting Convention Rules for 2021” (also referred to as the “Temporary 2021 Rules”), which will apply only for the 2021 Technical Meeting. Should anyone wish to appeal the results of the Technical Meeting to the NFPA Standards Council, you may do so in accordance with the Regulations Governing the Development of NFPA Standards, found at www.nfpa.org/regs.

  • NFPA Volunteers Recognized for Outstanding Contributions
NFPA’s volunteers are a very important part of the standards development process.  Typically, we recognize some of these outstanding individuals each year during the Tech Session to an audience of peers.  Unfortunately, this year amidst the COVID-19 epidemic, we cannot be together to recognize them in person; therefore, the Standards Council and NFPA are taking this opportunity to announce the winners for recognition.

In the meantime, please note the following deadlines for standards eligible for action at the 2021 Technical Meeting:

Annual 2021 revision cycle and Emergency Response and Responder Safety (ERRS) Group 1 custom cycle:

Fall 2020 revision cycle

  • October 7, 2020: The Report of the Motions Committee addresses two Fall 2020 Standards with Certified Amending Motions for consideration at the 2021 NFPA Technical Meeting: NFPA 318 and NFPA 501; and provides a list of NITMAMs that were not certified and a list of NITMAMs requested by the submitter to be withdrawn.
